When is text appropriate for a sig?
When will text distract from a sig?
Is your sig really in danger of being ripped if you don't have any text?

Text, Or No Text? That is the question...

I'd suggest always doing text. It's not that hard to make text unobtrusive and good-looking. Sometimes it even makes the sig better! And it helps against rippers.
Nothing helps against rippers, they will steal it even if it has your name on it and a watermark.
And more often than not, I do not use text, why? I do not like it.

Note how Kenny says this, whilst using an entirely text based sig currently
.
Watermarking can help against some rippers.
and text itself is used to give a sig a particular mood to it, or to fill space. in terms of what the use of text is trying to accomplish, Its just the same as a brush. You want a good looking sig, if text makes it look better, it should be used.

Yeah in some places a sig may not look complete without text and vice versa, oh and even having a sig like kenny's could be ripped, M.G posed as optic killer taking his sigs, so i guess you can never be safe online, not if you have a nice sig skill level anyway.
Also text can be made from the background, very useful, just add text, new layer apply then clipping mask, I use this quite often.
