Black Heart
Chapter 1
Shae stared, barely able to see through the tears that filled her eyes. Wreckage surrounded her. The charred remains of a house, surrounded by rubble and ashes, dominated the scene - but it wasn't what drew her eyes most. No, the only thing that she looked at was the burnt corpse of a small girl that lay on the ground before her.
The girl was Shae's sister. The toddler had been three years old. And now, the life that was once so full in her rosy face was crushed, snuffed away in the blink of an eye. Shae knew - though she didn't think of it - that if she entered the house, she would find the bodies of her parents.
Why had this happened? Why had this happened to her?
That morning, Shae had woken early to go into town and buy a new axehead for her father and a roll of cloth for her mother, along with a few other necessary items. On her return trip, she had seen the smoke - a huge, plume of grey rising from her home. She had spurred her horse to breakneck speed, and upon arriving, was hardly able to move at all.
Shae finally tore her eyes off of the corpse and took a step backwards. One thing was clear in her mind - whatever had happened here was not an accident, and whoever had committed this murder was still close. Risstalle needed to be warned.
***
"Dead?" Risstalle said.
"Yes." Shae raised a hand and wiped her eyes. "Dead. Burned. Murdered."
"Burned," Risstalle repeated, before nodding grimly. "This is Thorin's work."
Shae drew a sharp intake of breath. "Thorin? But - but it could have been a stray band of thieves, or - or something--"
"No. This was Thorin."
"But how do you know?"
Risstalle looked her in the eye and said, his voice low, "Who else but Thorin could be capable of such cruelty? Who else but him would kill people needlessly like this? No, this is him. And with the admins gone, the task of stopping him falls upon us moderators." His voice dropped to below a whisper. "And a hard task it will be. But why has he returned? When the admins defeated him last time, we all thought he was gone for good. And yet now, in this time of peace, he has come. And I doubt that his hunger for slaughter has been fulfilled."

There you are. A short and overly horrible first chapter, but it's the best that I could slap together in a short period of time. So, tear it to shreds, by all means.

...Possibly. I just didn't want you there through most of the story because I wanted there to be some suspense. I mean, members can't hope to contend with admins.

...I'm not sure if I should be sad or glad my writing is going the way it's meant to. XD

Well, I'll try my very hardest to update within the next forty-eight hours. I say forty-eight because I doubt I'll have time today.

Actually no. I should look in the IF stories more often then, my knowledge of IFStory is sadly lacking.
