Best story ever? We should have a topic for this as well

My best story was, unfortunately, a fan-fiction. *Gasp* I needed somewhere to start though, and didn't feel ready to write a full blown story. Near the end of my writing it (I never completed the story) I began to hate it, and may have even posted here about how I loathed it. But, looking back, I think it was decent. The characters had strong personalities and didn't seem like Mary/Gary sues. I think the story was generally compelling, and each character played a good part in it.
So, I'd like to hear about what all the authors here are proud of. Even if others don't find it good, you like it, and that's all that matters here.

If not... well that's a hard one. My favorite (Star Wars fanfic) is definitely not my best. But the second part of it, which I'm working on now, is a lot better. The character, so far, is still in her super Mary-Sue stature. But she's quickly "falling from grace", so to say. And I intend to make her go through hell for a while.

I'm about a third of the way through this draft, begun in February (I wrote the original in 2004-2005), and I've got a beginning, middle and end more or less sorted. The problems I'm facing have to do with the beginning of the story, which currently does a poor job of launching the plot. Why this story excites me so much is because I've finally managed to do what I've been trying to do with my work for the last two years--set a realistic speculative story against a strong fantasy back-drop--basically, fantasy where the elements can be taken as everything, and nothing. My primary objective is defining the characters as real people and having the world they live in come second. It's also the most emotionally potent story I've ever written without being gushy or a bloodbath.
If you like psychological, material/consciousness dealing, steam-power influenced with tinges of high fantasy, adventure, humanity, and subtle endangerment of life along with a series-long love story, then you'll enjoy Hellion.

The one I think is my best is co-written with Kim. "Demonic Cults Are Not Cliche".

Don't go falling in love with me, stranger.
I've been hurt too many times. By zombies.

So far the best of the worst is the new version of The Last Fireman and currently i'm rewriting Ganashi and Tosyegiu Samurai of Grief all of which are turning out good. The new Tosyegiu is advancing well I might post chapter 1 maybe 1-3 up. The Last Fireman has gone through a overhaul to fit more of the characters specifications plus a major overhaul on how he comes to become the Guardian of Los Angeles. Ganashi is getting much darker with more graphic detail (One man in the first chapter has a hot needle shoved into his eyes so that he can't close his eye lids watches his own fingers being chopped off with a kattana). So yeah Last Fireman is the best so far.

I'm in the process of finishing a sequel that's my attempt to get some practice with characters; that story I feel much better about. I'm tempted to post TR on FF.net, just to see what response I get, but I cringe at the thought of flames...

Will we ever get to see it? Or do you plan to publish it? If so, I would buy it, heh.
I think the current story I'm working on will be my best ever, though I often think that about all my new ideas. But I've put so much work into it, I think it has to be at least decent.

Publishing is definitely on the agenda, yeah, although at some point I do plan on sending out drafts to friends for reviewing and stuff--feel free to put yourself on that list if you wish. I'm not posting on forums in worry that it might deter publishers. There are other stuff I write (Like ET, for example) where I just don't care, but after 4 years of working on this, I'm quite intent to see it through without any danger.
At the moment, there are more than three books in the series (those are the ones I have definitive plotlines for--the others are just--"this needs to happen, and this needs to go down"). I think the final number will between four and six books depending on the pacing I think the story needs. A lot of the reason why it takes so long is because I actually take the time to build the physical strengths of a few of my characters. The first book has little fantasy action where the second and third are hard-core high fantasy, things blowing up, people dying, epicness. The first book, if I write it right, will just make you laugh and then cry a whole lot... and then laugh, and then cry some more. Bipolar disorder in book form, really.
But you--Pix--I am really sorry about not responding to your PM. I'm wicked busy with school and stuff. Whatever happens, good luck on YOUR piece, and don't let the research kill you!

And that's quite alright, I don't always expect others to reply when I send something so long. So far, the research is very interesting, but afterwords will come all the small, nit picky things that I want to know, heh.

It's called The Night Prince. You've probably seen me mention it once or twice.

I have to follow the trend though. My new story is far, far more original than any of my other's, is completely different from anything I've written and quite interesting, I like to think.

I have nothing to declare except my genius.
