Post pictures of your favourite pieces of art here, be they paintings, sketches, sculptures or any other media of fine art. The artwork could be famous, or created by your friend, or something you found on DeviantART. It could even be your own work, but in that case I encourage you to start a thread for your own artwork. You may analyse the artwork if you want, or simply praise it.

One of my favourite paintings is The Time of the Lilacs, oil on canvas by Sophie Anderson. I have a larger version as my desktop wallpaper at the moment.

Right now I can't find my favourite picture, but I really like madnna by Edward Munch. This picture was recently stolen from the Munch Museum in Norway. I can't remember if they have retrieved it or not. Anyways, I like this photo because I have a somewhat dark taste in art. This painting expressed Mary in a very new way.

Warning, this is a painting of a naked woman.

I find Salvador Dali's work to be highly interesting and entertaining. I could look at most of his paintings for hours and yet never get bored. I always notice details that I have never noticed before. My favorite painting of his is "The Eye."

I also adore this sketch- because of the story surrounding it and just.. how well it's drawn- but I don't know if it is appropriate enough to post here. It's the nude picture from the Titanic. Even though it's nudity, it's not pornographic. It's beautiful, and it's art. So if it's OK for me to post it, I'll find it...
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.

--Edgar Allan Poe

Check out my still untitled and "under construction" story here. I could use some advice.

Post it as a link, and warn people that the link contains nudity. That's what I did ;).gif

Heh, I always liked Norman Rockwells art a lot. I like the style that he uses when he paints mostly. This is one of my favorite pieces that he painted.

I'm not quite sure what else to put at the moment, I'm sure I'll think of more later.

Wow those look heaps cool. My favourite would be by Waterhouse. I bet I spell it wrong, but its called 'The Lady of Shalott' He did a few different paintings of her, but my favourite is this one:

The story was kind of sad. We have a massive print of it in the lounge.

After another year of art history and an art trip to Paris I need to post a few of my other favorite pieces of art ).gif

Caspar David Friedrich’s Wanderer Above the Mist [1818] Friedrich is, along with Joseph Mallord William Turner, my favorite artist from the romanticism. His paintings are beautiful and wakes so many emotions in me.

And this is Slave Ship by already mentioned Turner. I love the way he uses color and drama, and how it's sort of abstract but at the same time figurative. The emotions are strong but the painting style reminds me a little of impressionism, which is good because I love the style of impressionism, but I don't like the way it's usually no emotions in the painting.

Another favorite piece of art has to be the Nike sculpture at Louvre. It's so breathtaking.

And I could go on forever, haha, but what about you guys? What's your favorite pieces of art?

My favourite piece of art is probably 'Signing the Register' by Edmund Blair Leighton. It's on the cover of my copy of Charlotte Bronte's 'The Professor', and it's just so beautiful! I love the lighting on her dress, and the way that all the people have a different character, a different expression.

I like confusing artwork things that have no beggining or end, and stuff like that. So obviously I would like MC Ecsher. Here are some of my favorites that he drew.
