This is probably me trying my very bestesterestest, I did look at some tutorials for this, but the entire thing is recomposed by me, and I tried to deviate and experiment. This is much smaller resolution, it's roughly a widescreen monitor res. The actual version is made for print, and is thus about 4000 pixels wide. A 4000 pixel 300dpi TIFF is a bit too big for photobucket, so I had to make it a bit smaller xD.

Anyway, i'm kinda proud of this one, any comments or observations to improve are appreciated. This is for my portfolio that I will use to apply for Uni, so it's kinda important to me, and help at all is appreciated.

I like the style and color scheme, but it looks a bit too busy for what you meant it for. The focal is a bit unbalanced because the splatters are so widespread and colorful. Nice use of the pen tool (I assume that's what it is). Keep up the good work.

7/10

Thanks for the comment.

Just want to clarify what you meat by "too busy for what you meant it for". This isn't a wallpaper, if that's what you meant by that. It's a design that is meant for print, the specific dimensions are 19x13cm @ 300dpi. It's there just to give a sample of what I can do.

Also wasn't the pen tool but you're not far off ^_^. I used the paint tool in Adobe Illustrator, which effectively allows you to paint paths. I would have used the actual path tool if there weren't so many lines.

Scratch that last part, then. It's too busy, meaning that there is too much that catches the eye. You should have one focal point and then compliment it, trying not drag the eye away from it too much. The print also needs to have a natural flow, and in this case it's a backwards slant. If you have a lot of lines or brushes in contradiction with that flow, it throws is off. Granted, some people can get that to look good, but I don't know many. I'm a fan of simplicity, though, so don't take me too seriously.

I disagree with the flow factor, flow isn't something you can grasp nor is it something you should define too much.
I like this though i feel you went a bit too 'forum graphicy'.
The colours are nice, I think you should maybe change the green.

Its a damn piece i do enjoy looking at it, does 'up' the quality of work round here, keep pumping this stuff out, large art ftw. : D

It's amazing ).gif But I think the text is a little strange, maybe you should make it all lowercase, and blur the bottom a little? Also I agree, the green haze is a little strange, maybe it should be a little smaller.

Pretty nice, but once I got the idea in my head, I now can't unsee him riding a splattering wave of blood and guts.

I'm also seeing some too-obvious brush repeats. I also think the brushing might have too much splatter and obstruction to the snowboarder (or I think he's a snowboarder, because I can't see any of his board).

Other than those issues, I think it's nice. Nice sense of motion and action, and a good color scheme.

It's very chaotic, if it weren't for that it'd work sooooo much better. It disrupts the flow a bit. Probably wanna make whatever he's riding more visible, but I really like the background and the immediate color contrast. Amazing style, but simplify it a bit more, is my point.
