Hey everybody. I am writing a story and I need some help. I cannot come up with a name for my enemy. Put down any enemy names you can think of. In my story my enemy looks like a baldheaded demon -half-man. My best friend came up with "The Forbidden One". I didnt like it so can you help me out.

For. ex. In Eragon they have mostly urgals, Lord of the rings have orcs, and I am Legend have mutant people.

Or IF you want to describe what your enemy would look like. But it is not in the Eragon kinda time.

I certainly hope your not writing about some boring 'force of evil' like Sauron with absolutely no personality.

Now is this a race, or a person?

For a race I'd go with either a traditional Jakal, or...how about Yvilikin?
As for a person...Jarguol sounds good.

This sort of stuff depends upon a lot of what the rest of your book is like. If the 'language' in your book is rather modern, peoples names being stuff like 'Ben, Bob, Cathy, etc...', don't make a non fitting name unless you want it to clash on purpose. If you make all the other names up though, you'd best do a little bit of linguist research and figure out what kind of name would go with (or...NOT go with) the rest of the names in your book.

Since this isn't a story, it doesn't belong in original writing. I'm moving this to writers' hangout.

To play devils advocate, as always, why do you need some "evil force?" Do you need an enemy with some cool name?

Yes. All antagonists need cool names.

How about Shre'kauri?

How about not having an EVUL guy at all?

I normally look at other languages and find cool sounding things from them.

I can't remember but sure in WoW there was a name of a wolf that sounded bad-ass, but actually meant wolf in old Norwegian and then something else in another language.

As Darth Futuza said, you need to take into consideration what other names you are using. But if it fits, I believe it's common to use sharp consonants and sounds such as 'sh', 'r' (the sharp rolling one, used in German etc), 'k', 'g', 't' and 'th' and vowels such as 'o', 'u' and 'a'

Then you could also search on site like this one and search for names in meaning. Or play with English words, for example 'anger' and 'demon'.

Here's a suggestion:

ANGRA MAINYU
Gender: Masculine
Usage: Near Eastern Mythology
Means "evil spirit" in Avestan.

Now this doesn't sound very evil, but use it as a starting point. Then you can for example just take the first word, and add, let's say, 'th' to the end.

'Angrath' or 'Angorath'

Maybe not the best example, but anyways. That's the sort of things I do when I try to come up with a name.

I've always found that names that have some kind of biblical connotation sound that much creepier. The Legion for example, or the Servants of Baal. Something like that.

You know, I posted a topic with the link to BtN, but I think it got archived or something. Or maybe I missed it when I was looking. Hmm. I should probably repost it.

I dunno, I allways prefer to come up with my own... hmmm... how about the "Reun'audDesenun" (aka ruin and destruction)? I think it's pretty good anyway, and you could allways shorten it.
