I read it, and I liked it at the end.

For most of the book, I was very annoyed with the main character. I really consider him a coward, and feel if he hadnt done what he did, a lot of lives wouldnt be ruined.

I agree with you about Amir.

So had you found it difficult to understand it sometimes or not? Because at some places the writer had used word from Urdu and Afghani.

This is my favorite book that I've been forced to read. I learned so much about Afghani culture (I guess that's the point of a multicultural class), and found out Afghanistan isn't a wasteland--or wasn't before Russia and America blew it up anyway. I did find it odd that females are mentioned only briefly and seem to have no importance, but that is where A Thousand Splendid Suns takes over. Anyway, it's a very captivating book and, as far as I'm concerned, the only good thing to ever come out of an English class.

I actually really liked this book. And yes, the main character was a spineless coward, but I think he redeemed himself in the end, when he took in his friends son...

Not in my eyes. I don't see the point in writing books about weak minded people. What message does it give? That there's no problem if you watched your friend getting raped as long as you 'redeem' yourself. Sorry, it is unacceptable...

Well if the main character has every quality imaginable, the book would be rather boring to read. ;).gif Sorry but I don't agree with you view point.

Not going about the moral aspect, I would say that I enjoyed the book. The book doesn't focus on the main character's cowardliness but deals with what he suffers because of his cowardliness, his thanklessness and ungratefulness. It is about human suffering and what happened in the Taliban rule.

Well, I just think anybody can write about suffering. It is how to overcome that suffering, only a few can manage to write about, and dear Khaled Hosseini clearly hasn't...
