Hello everyone, Pmurphy here doing my Fan Fic of how Book IV will turn out. I am hoping it will be better than my last attempt at a book. This is right after Brisingr ended the same day. I would like as many comments as you want so you can dish it out however hard you want. Suggestions are also welcome. SO here it is.



Chapter One- Catching up


“We are not alone.”

That was the last thing that Eragon heard before he went to sleep after the battle of Feinster. Three people had died that could have changed the fate of Alagaësia and one was born. Oromis and Glaedr both suffered death of the flesh. Though Glaedr’s soul was still alive his body and physical presence was forever gone. Varaug the shade that was summoned by Galbatorix’s three magicians was killed by Arya. Through Eragon’s mental attack and by her arm they were able to vanquish the shade. Arya ShadeSlayer, the fourth person ever to have killed a shade and survive.

With Oromis and Glaedr dead, Eragon was now the one free dragon rider. He was the only one that would be able to put a stop to Galbatorix, Murtagh, their dragons, Thorn and Shruikan, and the hundreds of Eldunari or Heart of Hearts that Galbatorix has.

All of these thoughts went through Eragon’s brain as he laid in his waking dreams. As the sun began to set again he opened his eyes and looked up at the top of his tent within the Varden’s camp. He had come back after the battle to get some rest. He heard the deep breathing of the mighty sapphire dragon outside his tent. Saphira was still fast asleep from having to fly all the way from Ellesmera and than fighting a full scale battle.

Let her rest, Eragon thought, She deserves it.

Eragon rose from the bed and with his mind, searched for Roran and Katrina. As he felt them together he spoke out to Roran.

Roran, it’s Eragon. He smiled as he felt his cousin get over his initial shock.

Yes Eragon, how are you? The men in the city are already talking about what you and Arya did. Is it true? Did you both really kill a shade?

Saphira and myself are fine. She is still resting and will need a while to recover from all that she did. As for your second and third questions, those are also true. But, that is not what I contacted you for. I would like to see you and Katrina and also to talk with you. We have not been able to have a real conversation since before I left for Farthen Dûr. It seems as if you have changed much in your demeanor.

Yes, much has changed. Roran stated with little emotion. I think it is best if we do talk soon. I have much to say about the going ons since you have been gone. We are in the Varden’s camp as of now. Would you like to come to us or us to you?

I think it best if you came to me. I would not like to have Saphira wake up and me be gone.

He heard Roran laugh in his head Aye that would not be a sight that I would like to see. We will be over in about ten minutes. We will be as quiet as possible so that we do not wake up Saphira.

That would be wise, and I will see you shortly. Eragon than cut off the connection and stood up off of his bed and walked outside the tent. There, he saw Blödhgarm and the other eleven elves situated around his tent and Saphira. They all bowed their heads when he came out and he beckoned Blödhgarm over. As the blue haired elf padded over to where he stood, Eragon put a finger to his lips as a sign of silence and pointed to Saphira. The elf nodded and slowed his pace until he was in front of Eragon.

“Atra esterní ono thelduin, Eragon Shur'tugal” He said in a whisper that Eragon could only hear due to his enhanced hearing. Eragon nodded in response.

“My cousin and his wife are to arrive shortly. Let them pass without resistance.”

“Of course ShadeSlayer” Blödhgarm bowed his head and began to back away.

“Wait Blödhgarm, I wanted to thank you and the other elves for protecting Saphira and myself so well. I appreciate all that you have done.”

“We are honored to be able to serve one as such as yourself Eragon. We will protect you until the day you see no longer see fit. Any one of us would kill upon your command, let live on your word and die for your flesh. You are the one hope that we have in these dark times. We thank you for seeing it fit, to honor us with your words.” This time the elf put his hand across his sternum as a sign of respect. At this, the other eleven elves did likewise.

They all dipped their heads and said, “ Wiol ono.”

With that, Eragon turned back to his tent and made the bed. He set up two more chairs for Roran and Katrina to sit in.

He heard their arrival a couple of minutes later, and waited for them to enter. He stood as the tent flap came open, and smiled as his cousin-in-law Katrina stepped through, followed by his cousin He hugged them both. As they withdrew from the embrace, he motioned toward the chairs.

“Please sit.” He said in a soft voice. As they did, he asked “So Roran, I have noticed it twice now. Tell me what’s wrong cousin. You seem different than when we parted. Has something happened?”

“No nothing of importance…” He stopped as he recieved a piercing glare from Katrina. “I-I… when we last parted I told you I was also about to leave also, on my first assignment?” He paused as Eragon nodded. “When I left I went out on raiding parties stopping supplies from reaching the Empires troops. My company was made up of humans, under the command of Martland Redbeard. He was a good commander and treated everyone fairly. Our first raid went perfect. We lost no men and only a couple were wounded including me, but the magician that was with our party healed me. The next raid that we went on, was during the middle of the night…”

And so, Roran told Eragon his story since they left. When he reached the end of the raid under Captain Edric, he saw Eragon’s eyes flash at the mention of Edric taking his weapons. When Roran told Eragon that Nasuada charged him with insubordination and had him whipped fifty times, Eragon clenched his fist. He looked as if he was about to say something, but motioned for Roran to continue. Eragon’s next look made Roran laugh. Roran told him how he was challenged for command of the Urgals and beat an Urgal in wrestling.

“You have told me much, Roran.” Eragon said slowly as if he was about to loose control. His fist were still clenched in a bone crushing squeeze.

“Eragon,” Roran said slowly “I do not blame Nasuada for what she did. It was the right thi-” Roran was cut off by the look Eragon gave him.

“I have kept my peace thus far Roran. I can see from the look in Katrina’s eyes as you told the story, that she does not agree with it any more than I do. It was not right of her to do that to you. If you were a normal soldier that disobeyed an order and got people hurt, that is when you should have been whipped. What you did, should have been praised with great words. Not whipped. You, being my cousin, makes you exempt from any punishment that you got. I am a rider, the only free rider outside of Galbatorix’s control. Nasuada knows better. She should not have done that. It upsets me that she treated you as if you were a common soldier.” Eragon had said all of this with finality.

Roran did not know what to say. He took the punishment and it was over. Why couldn’t Eragon and Katrina drop it? “Eragon, no. I have dealt with the punishment and I do not need you to stick up for me. I will not allo-”

“Allow me?” Eragon roared. At this, they heard Saphira rustle and wake up. As she poked her head in the tent, she probed Eragon’s mind.

What is it little one? Why are you so upset? Instead of answering, her he showed her the images of what had transpired. At this, she said, Eragon. Do you not think that you may be over reacting a little bit. The wound has been healed and it has placed Roran in higher rank among the Varden.

Out loud to Saphira and Roran he said"I have no intention of letting her walk over me and the ones I love even if I am her vassal. ”

“Eragon, no wait!” He heard the soft voice of Katrina yell. “That is not the only reason that we came to see you. Horst and Elain are still having a problem with her child. It is over three weeks late. We think you need to take a look at her.” Katrina said this to partially calm Eragon and also because she was truly worried.

“I will send one of the elves that protect me to go to their tent and have a look at her. It is the best I can do right now. Plus they will know more than me about delivering babies.” Eragon spoke in a softer voice.

“Ex-excuse me? ShadeSlayer?” A small quivering voice spoke outside Eragon’s tent. “Lady Nasuada has an urgent message for you. She says that the Queen needs to speak with you.”

“Ah” Eragon thought, “I have been waiting for this, but it gives me a perfect opportunity to go to her tent.” To Saphira-he said through his mind “Do you think I should talk to her about this yet?”

“You should wait until after we figure out what is going on. Then she will hear our mind. She has to come to respect us as a Rider and Dragon.”

“I agree we should not cause undo harm to our relationship if I can.”

Out loud Eragon said, “ Blödhgarm!” He waited until the elf came inside the tent. He came in a hurry.

“Yes ShadeSlayer. How may we serve you?” Eragon thought he felt something different in the elf….. Something he rarely felt from within elves. It was as if the elf whole-heartedly respected him.

“I need you to find the elf who is best with medical magic. I have a friend that is having difficulty with a birth. I need one of that elf’s to see if everything is fine, and if it is not, to do everything they can to fix it. Also I need the rest of you to arm yourselves and be prepared for anything.”

Blödhgarm gave him a questioning look, but nodded and walked out of the tent. As he heard Blödhgarm issuing the orders, he turned toward Roran and Katrina.

“Katrina I need you and Roran to take which ever elf Blödhgarm sends to Horst’s tent to tend to Elain.”

“Eragon what do you intend to do?” Roran said with astonishment on his face.

“Do? I intend to do nothing. As of now it is just a precaution. Nasuada may not agree with all I have to say and she may try to force me unto her will. I do not think that she will do that because but I do not want to be taken unaware. As much as I would like to avoid bloodshed with our own people it may be impossible to avoid.”

With that, Eragon walked out of the tent. With Saphira by his side, he led the eleven elves toward the center of Feinster, where he knew he would find his liege lord.

Could have been something like,

Nothing big but that's all i could really see. I look forward to reading your next chapter .

This is a great start and if it keeps this up it will be one of the fanfic I actually keep up with.

But I spotted a mistake:

With that, Eragon walked out of the tent. With Saphira by his side, he led the eleven elves toward the center of Feinster, where he knew he would find his liege lord. No caps.

Chapter 2:Relinquish

“My Lady.” Eragon said looking at her with a not unkind gaze. She nodded toward him from the center of her tent.

“Eragon, Islanzadí has asked that you come speak to her and that is why I summoned you. She said that it was an urgent matter so she is on the mirror on the post there.”

Eragon had walked to the command tent and after the irritating Night Hawks barred his way till he was announced he entered the tent. They left the elves out with the other guards. When Eragon entered with the sword on his side he saw Nasuada give a look toward the place that Elva was usually hidden. Ever since he had partially removed the spell from the young girl she came and went. From a quick touch with his mind he felt that she was not there and he continued toward the mirror.

In it he saw the Queen of the elves. Islanzadí. She was wearing an entire black outfit from what Eragon could see. She was inside of her command tent though all he could see was the green interior of it.

“Atra esterní ono thelduin, Eragon-elda.” Islanzadí spoke. She then placed her hand over her sternum.

Eragon was shocked that she used the term elda and that she graced him by speaking first. “Mor'ranr lífa unin hjarta onr” he replied.

“Un du evarínya ono varda.” Islanzadí replied. “Eragon I am glad that you came in with such haste. I need to tell you something of great importance that could change the very way that your life has been.” As Islanzadí paused to let the words sink in Eragon was suddenly aware that she did not know that he knew Oromis and Glaedr were dead.”

“ Islanzadí,” Eragon said before she could start again. He began to speak in the Ancient Language so that only she would understand him. “I am aware that the morning sage and Glaedr have perished at the indirect hand of Galbatorix. Glaedr gave me his sould before we left so he is not completely dead.”

“I am aware of this Eragon.” She switched back to the language that would allow all to understand. “Arya contacted me when the battle was over and told me all that had happened. I am proud of what the two of you accomplished. It is a daring feet that both of you are responsible for the death of two Shades. However that is not all that I needed to tell you.”

Eragon was not entirely surprised by this. What do you think she has to say than? Eragon asked Saphira.

I am not sure, maybe she wants to talk to us about the next step in this war. The last dragon and rider elders have perished.

True. He said to Saphira. Outloud to Islanzadí he spoke “I am glad I did not have to repeat what we know. What else do you wish to speak to us about than Islanzadí?”

“Eragon. While Oromis and Glaedr were the Elders of the riders they were not the Lead Rider and Dragon. They did not ever take that mantel. As Oromis and Glaedr requested before the battle started, I hereby make you Eragon and Saphira the Lead Dragon and Rider of the new order. You are the and only free rider and dragon once more.”

Eragon’s mouth fell and he could nothing but stare. He had not thought that there would ever be a lead rider again. He was completely amazed. Saphira… I don’t know if I can do this. I-...

Eragon! Of course we can do this, we must. We must honor the last request of our masters and do all we can to lead fourth as Lead rider and dragon.

“Islanzadí, I thank you for this. I will do all I can to honor the memories of Oromis and Glaedr and of all the riders and dragons that Galbatorix has killed. Again I am thankful that you feel fit to have me become the lead rider.”

“That is not the only reason that I have contacted you Eragon.” Islanzadí looked straight at his eyes. “As you know elves do not normally have funeral ceremonies for the dead. We feel that the dead are dead and there is nothing to be done about it. However, we feel that this case is different and we wish to have a ceremony before we continue on the march. We would like you and Saphira to attend this ceremony.”

“Of course we will. We will leave right away. Would you like Arya or the other elves to come with?”

“Arya should be present as my daughter. As for the rest of the elves, that is up to you.”

As Eragon puased Nasuada stepped next to him so Islanzadí would be able to see him. She spoke “ Islanzadí as I am sure you are aware we are in the heart of the Empire and we cannot spare Eragon anymore. We have already sparred him once while he traveled to your capital. Every time he leaves there is a chance that we will be attacked. I know how important it is for him to be there, but as his liege lord I forbid him to travel to you.” She spoke with finality as if the matter was settled. As she spoke Eragon saw a spark in Islanzadí’s eyes that he did not often see. It was a sight that would make any man Eragon know flinch and look away.

“Perhaps you misunderstood me Lady Nasuada but when I requ-”

“Queen Islanzadí,” Eragon said cutting her off. Myself, Saphira and Arya will arrive in three days. It is as fast as Saphira would be able to travel with two passengers. I will leave the twelve elven spell casters you sent among the Varden so they are not left completely open to attack. I am positive that Thorn and Murtagh will be out of the picture for some time. Glaedr made sure of that. I will see you in three days.”

Islanzadí smiled and nodded her head. “Very well Eragon-elda. I look forward to seeing you then.” With that the Elven Queen cut off the spell and the mirror showed Eragon his face, and standing right behind him the shocked face of Nasuada.

“Eragon, what do you think you are doing? When you swore fealty to me you gave me the right to decide things such as this. I order you to contact Islanzadí and revoke your plans to travel to the Elven Army.”

Eragon tilted his head down and took a deep breath and let it out slowly. He was going to have to start breaking off from the three races that held him now that he was the Lead Rider. But even while he did that he had to remain allies with all of them if they were going to defeat Galbatorix. With that he turned around.

“Lady Nasuada, you heard all that Islanzadí said to me correct?” We waited for Nasuada to nod before he began speaking again. “I am now the Lead Rider of the new order. With that title I now am now a new political figure in the land of Alagaësia. As the riders of old did, I now need to be able to make decisions without having to worry about what someone that has power over me might say.”

“Eragon, you swore to me that you would be my vassal until the day I release you. I have done no such thing and yet you think that you can tell me how things are supposed to be? I do not think so, I will not have it.” Nasuada had a hurt tone in her voice. Eragon could tell that she was close to loosing all self control that she had, he had to end this quickly.

“Nasuada. I in no way want you to feel as if this is being forced upon you, but if you continue this track it will be a matter of force. I cannot be a subordinate to the races of Alagaësia anymore. It is not only to you that I will have this conversation with. I will speak to Orik and to Islanzadí when I meet with them in person. I hope that you can see this and you will release me from my bound.”

Eragon said all of this with a kind voice, one that did not sound at all threatening.

“And if I don’t, Eragon? What will you do then? Will you over power me and force me to release you?”

“Of course not, but as a Rider I now have the authority to release myself from the bound. With or without your permission.” He added quietly at the end. “I do not wish to do this you must know that. But it is something that is necessary. Your father never wanted any of the races to have a hold on me and now they all do, do you want to go against his wishes?”

Nasuada was quiet for a long time after his speech. Saphira? Eragon said with his mind, What do you think she will do?

I know not little one, it could be very hurtful to our relationship with her and the Varden if she refuses. So I think she will release us, but there seems to be something else holding her back.

Nasuada looked up at Eragon in his eyes, “Will you still help us in our quest?”

“Of course I will, I still will do all I can to insure the Varden win this war. It is necessary.”

“Come her Eragon.” She stated still looking him in the eyes. She said this in a flat tone that was barely audible. She stared into his eyes the whole time he moved toward her.

As he reached her he stopped and stood three feet away from her. She moved forward till she was less than a foot away and stopped. She than did something that Eragon did not expect. She reached forward and hugged him.

“I am sorry Eragon. It should have never gone this far.” She said quietly in his ear. It was a quick friendly hug and she pulled away as soon as she spoke. When she stepped back Eragon was shocked to see that she had taken Brisingr, his sword, from his belt.

Without thinking Eragon dove back reaching for the hunting knife he kept strapped to the other side of his belt. While doing this he yelled with his mind Blödhgarm, quick!


As the elves darted in through the entrance with the Night Hawks close behind, Saphira made a low growl. It was a warning but it was very threatening. The elves stood in front of Eragon each with a thin blade drawn and shining in the candle light. Across from them Nasuada and the eight Night Hawks stood with their blades drawn and at the ready position. Eragon with his mind fully expanded ready for anything had felt one of the Night Hawks called to the reserve Night Hawks for help.

I cannot believe she would do this. Eragon thought. What is she playing at? There is no way that this would help her situation.

As the full squad of Night Hawks arrived less than thirty-seconds later all with their blades drawn and took their positions in front of Nasuada facing the elves, Eragon and Saphira, Eragon spoke.

“Nasuada what are you thinking? Have you taken a leave of your senses?” He said this and much hurt in his voice. “There is no way that your men can win this, and even if you did what would that accomplish?”

Her face twitched in an amused smile.“Night Hawks, leave us.” Nasuada stated. When they stayed unmoving she said again in a harsh voice. “I said LEAVE!”

As they filed out of the tent flap looking back at the elves, Eragon rose and eyebrow.

“Eragon come here.” Nasuada spoke in a soft voice. “Neo ono haina.” She said in crude construction of the Ancient language which said “harm you not”.

Eragon nodded as the elves looked at him and they too left the tent.

“Eragon come here.” Nasuada spoke again. “Please.”

Eragon walked toward her with the knife at the ready. Nasuada was holding Brisingr at her side loosely in her hand.


“May I have my sword back?” Eragon asked cautiously reaching out with his left hand.

“No, please kneel in front of me Eragon, and I will release you from my command. I will not harm you, you need not fear.”

Eragon looked at Saphira unsure of what to do. Should I? He asked.

Yes, I think you should. She spoke in the Ancient Language so she cannot harm you.

Yes, Eragon replied. Unless she meant that she won’t but the sword will. Even as he said this he kneeled down on one knee. He watched her the whole time with his dagger ready at his side.

Nasuada walked up to him and lifted the sword. “I release you from all bindments that you previously have had with me and the Varden.” As she said she brought down the sword on each of his shoulders and then his brow. “Rise Eragon, leader of the Riders and friend of the Varden. I am sorry if I caused you undo harm. It was not my intention.”

Eragon stood and accepted the swords from Nasuada. “Thank you Nasuada, thank you very much. I must go now and prepare. Good luck with the coming days!”

“Thank you Eragon. And good luck to you too.”

With that Saphira pulled her head out of the tent and Eragon walked out headed toward his own tent.

I hope I gave you a little fright there on what was about to happen. The next chapter is them preparing to leave so it is not as interesting. Nothing big will come up until probably at least the 15 chapter.

Well if all of your Chapters come within 1 hour of each other I couldn't careless when the next big thing comes. LOL. Although I find it awkward Eragon would leave the Varden for a funeral. So when is the next update?

I do not think that they will continue to come that fast. As for Eragon leaving. There is no immenent threat and he will be back within two weeks.

It was an interesting situation you had there with Eragon and Nasuada. I think you should add a bit more detail and descriptions and stuff. Other then that it was good. Didn't see any mistakes . Just curious is this the reason why you where getting the information for shurty wiki?

Really like this story, interesting how you added tension between Eragon and Nasuada in the first few chapters. Liked how you mentioned Rorans whipping as well, haven't seen that in other stories. Keep up the good work and can't wait for an update!

No I was doing that originly just to help out and because I had nothing else to do.
