Hey guys. Rinion gave me the go ahead for this one, so y'all can take it up with him if this transcends some evil rule I am not aware of xD.

Alright! So what's going to happen is that the contestants will be provided with a plot line that can be interpreted from several POVs, and literary perceptions. They will have to come up with a unique way to portray the story in a way that keeps the reader interested in the mystery/drama/horror--what have you--of what's going on.

Getting a few of the obvious questions out of the way...

ANYONE
can enter. I will be judging. You can use first, second, or third person. You are not being judged on the quality of your writing, but your ability to manipulate as a storyteller. You cannot enter after registration is closed. The terms/length will be agreed upon.

Please feel free to give any suggestions =)

Entrants? =D

THE TOPIC AND PERAMTERS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

QUOTE ("Contest Topic")
A character lives in a secluded setting. He/she is young, in or just about to be in their teens. One night, they wake up and look out the window and see a light glow on the horizon which grows and consumes them. They wake up to discover it was all a dream, but come to the conclusion that the world is going to end. As a result, from this moment forth they believe, unshakably, that the world is a few days from the end despite what his/her friends may tell them and cannot be convinced otherwise.

In your interpretation of this story, you are free to create as many characters as you need, with as many subplots, although the story cannot stray from this main plot. The story can be fantasy, sci-fi, romance, mystery, cyberpunk, steampunk—anything you wish. You can focus on anything—your goal is to execute this in a manner that is both interesting and innovative.

The winning entry will have:
- Good sentence level writing and proper grammar—nothing spectacular is required.
- Be 2,000 to 6,000 words in length.
- A creative interpretation and execution of the concept parameters.
- Extensive use of the Original Writing section to get criticism on incomplete work (YOUR PIECE WILL NOT BE JUDGED BEFORE IT IS PM’D TO ME).

The winning entry will be read aloud on the Sevenwrite.com podcast, and will have a special sig made as a prize. There will be second and third place winners that will also get honorable mention and sigs.

THE DUE DATE IS: FRIDAY, JULY 3RD 2009

Go to it! =)

Ben

Me, too.
"It sounded like a chicken, but in her heart she knew it wasn't. In that instant, she completely understood the concept of a chicken that was not a chicken. Im not so comfortable with my writing yet, but I'll be willing to try it.

Can we expect feedback on our work? Or advice to improve whatever skill we're practicing?

Yeah, Phee. In fact, I encourage all of you to utilize the Original Writing forum and offer critiques on each other's material in-progress.

What sort of time-frame would y'all like? How long would you need to write three scenes with a 15-page maximum?

I'll try, depending on subject. Three scenes can take me from three hours to three days depending how well I see what I'm writing.

For me personally, a very short deadline is always best, the longer the deadline the more I tend to procrastinate. So I'd like a week at most D.gif

That being said, how do you want the pages to be formatted? Or how many words should we write?

Assuming 1,000 words = about 2 pages, 2000-6000 word should do nicely.

8===D~~~~~( ) <--- Random. I will join sir, but it does take me quite a while to get stuff done because i'm lazy. So possibly a week or so for this would work well maybe week and a half.

A week sounds good to me too. Any idea when this will be starting? I don't really mind if it starts this week and don't expect you to shift the deadline just for me, but I don't finish my exams until Friday (a week from tomorrow) so it'd be nice if it started on Wednesday or something like that ... =P

Having said that the most difficult exams are (nearly) over, so I won't be revising like mad, but at the same time I doubt I'd be getting stuck into it until after I come out on the 29th.

I have nothing to declare except my genius.
