except for constant assasianation attempts on all the varden's leaders, and taking up the Du Vrangr Gata's time by hunting for them. not to mention poisoning wells, food and generally wreaking havoc amongst the varden. Also, Eragon & Oromis agreed that the only reason they hadn't done this yet was that Surda wasn't a big enough threat & didn't openly oppose the empire

I'd like to know about the spies the Varden has in the empire as well. We may get their point of view in Book IV.

For the Trianna theory, I understand what your saying. Yet, would she not have had her mind checked when she joined the varden? Then again, the fact could of been ignored if she could hide it and if the the scan was done by the twins. At the moment, this is the best theory. I can't think of that many other people it could be.

Well of course there are Empire spies situated in the Carden (Nasuada mentions there's a task force dedicated to searching them out). However, I do not believe that any currently known character is dirty, especially not Trianna. We already got the huge espionage twist when we learned the true nature of the twins. It'd be tacky on CP's part to play the same card again... again.

He already made a second shade, even though they are supposed to be extremely rare, so why wouldn't he add in a few more spies?

What about Farica, She is Nasuadas handmaid. She would be the perfect spy, always around the leader, Nasuada trust her so she would get a lot of information.

I can see how Trianna could be a member of the Black Hand...... Personally though, I think it would be a bit of a stretch for CP to turn her into a member of Galby's Black Hand. Besides, aside from the Twins, we've never known any of the Black Hand's members, so why would CP make another member someone we have known basically since Eragon?

I like the idea mentioned above by aragorn2009; what about Farica? We all know she is Nasuada's handmaid, so she is around both leaders (Nasuada + Orrin) a lot. She's probably picked up way more info than she lets on. She could be very dangerous, as Nasuada trusts her completely. Or I'm just totally out of it and she's an ordinary middle-aged handmaid. laugh.gif

Maybe, maybe not, Nothing is proven. If CP has said that it's spies among the Varden, I bet she is one of them.

Remember that these are just wild speculations, which is okay, but it would also be nice if we had some sources to play around with. I have never actually thought for more than a couple of seconds on who a spy could be, so I don't really have an opinion.

It's extremely likely that there's a spy. Not just someone who joined in Surda but someone (other than the Twins) who's been there since Farthen Dur.
Think about it.
Who were the magicians checking people in Farthen Dur? The Twins
Who were the traitors? The Twins.
If the Twins realized that someone coming in was a spy of Galby, I'm pretty sure they would welcome him or her with open arms rather than revealing them to Ajihod.
This opens up a whole new set of possibilities (to me anyway) including but not restricted to Farica the handmaid.

P.S- hundred posts.

But when the twins were discovered to be traitors, Trianna was instated to hunt out any other possibilities, so it is likely that she would have looked for them. It is even less likely that they would be held in regard for higher level priorities because they are probably kept under close observation.

Congratulations on a hundred posts.

I'm almost sure that there has to be a traitor somewhere in the Varden.
It could be Trianna or even a high-ranked officer like Jörmundor.
The problem with Trianna is that there is almost nothing we know about her except that she's a sorceress who leads the Vrangr Gata and that she tried to seduce Eragon.
Also, it wouldn't make sense that there were two (or rather three) traitors in the Varden when the Twins alone would be enough.
Until now, there's nobody who's been acting suspiciously, like the Twins did in the first book.
It's also possible that someone's still going to become a traitor and betray the Varden. Especially Elva is very likely to do that, seeing how she reacted to Eragon's attempt to free her from her curse.
I think it's likely that there will be such a twist in Book IV.
We will see.
