I saw this in another forum but it was for artwork so here it goes:

The Two Categories:
Round 1- Lord of the Rings Fan Fiction

Round 2- Harry Potter Fan Fiction

Final Round- Inheritance Fanfiction

These can change, please tell me what you think. Maybe a sci-fi or a pirates.

here are the rules:
1) In between paragraphs should be double spaced.

2) Proper grammar.

3) have fun.

4) Hand your work in on time at midnight pacific time(be fair) on the day it is due.

5) Minimum of 2,000 words.

6) Maximum of 5,000 words.

You don't have to enter all rounds. The winner and second place (maybe third place see how many people we can get) will advance to the next finals. Everyone who takes part will vote for who wins. Ten points for first place, eight points for second place, 5 points for third, two points for fourth.

You will have atleast one month or two to work on the story. This competition is to give you freedom because I hate competitions that make you work with the same plot. Right now, is just for discussion to see what genres to use. IF you win one, you can enter it, but you can't win another spot. I don't think I am missing anything. This gives you freedom and to do something you haven't done before.

This is supposed to take a long time.

Soon to be the Rp'er formerly known as OrangeDragonRider and ODR. At first I thought ODR was a great nickname, it flows great. But I realized it sounds like Odor.

So.. basically we write a 10,000 word story in any of the categories and hope we win to write a second 10,000 word story?

a) I think it's too long for successive stories. I think there was a reason it was for artwork, this is too time-conscuming and, though I'd love to and will cconsider your competition, it's too.. difficult.

Take judging for example. You said we each vote on our favorites. So basically, we have to each sit down andread God knows how many 10,000 word stories and judge?

I thought long and hard about this, and I changed it to 5,000. But 5,000 words may be a lot, but to get a good story going you need a lot. You may have the options to vote. But you can't vote for your self unless anyone wants to judge then all they have to do is read. Maybe I should do just one round and make it long. Have any ideas? I would love to have a few longer story competitions around here and I am writing, it's not ready to publish yet.

Yeah, WH is very low on activity lately, and while competitions are very welcome, we can't expect people to want to take the time to write a story that long. All for a little competition.

Perhaps you could revise it to be shorter, and maybe even have less rounds, or just one round. The Inheritance Fan Fiction section of WH is very, very active. I think if you PM'd some of those people, and got them to agree to write a short story based on Inheritance, you'd have a better turn out, rather than making a topic and hoping people will notice.

FABULOUSSSSS!!

I'd be in for a short story. Short stories are fun and relaxing.

Don't forget that some people's June-August are winter months instead of summer, so technically, they have school.

I guess I lost the Harry Potter fanfiction battle. So I guess I'll pm the inheritance writers. OR I could make the Inheritance fan fiction the final and make the Harry Potter fanfiction second. So how long can a short story be?

Why not try a 1000-2000 word story? That would be much more doable. I've read some fantastic short stories that tell a story very well in that length, sometimes less.

1000-2000 words is what I would call a very short story.

I write chapters of 1300 words in my fanfiction.

I would like to be in the competition though, I have never written original stories, I'd like to try that out.

I guess I will make it a fanfiction short story competition. The length will be from 2,000 words to 5,000. I like longer short stories.
