CRACKDOWN ON SPAM!

When posting now, try to read through your posts one extra time and make sure they follow the writers' hangout rules when it comes to low content posts and spamming. IF you're unsure about whether or not it has enough content, it probably hasn't p.gif I will go down much stricter than I have the last months on low content posts and spamming, and you might be warned or post-suspended without a warning PM first. Furthermore topics that are full of spam may be closed at the moderator's discretion.

What's considered spamming/too low content?

All talk that has nothing to do with the story in the topic you post in. We have the PM system for a reason. E.g. What time it is for you, other stories by the same author, your school day, signatures, avatars etcetc...

All posts that only ask about updates (excepted a short comment from the author letting people know when (s)he'll be able to post next time) E.g. When is the next update? Will you update soon? etcetc... NOTE: Comments saying something like, "awesome, I can't wait for your update" in reply to an author's note on when the next update is is not tolerated either.

All posts merely saying how you loved/hated the story. We want reasons people ;).gif Not tolerated posts: I loved your story<3 <3, Great story, when is the update? I loved your story, I couldn't see any spelling mistakes. etcetc...

Bumping your topic isn't allowed (posting a post asking for comments or spamming, just to get your topic at the top of the page). Double posts are allowed for posting story updates but only the author of the story can double post and (s)he can only do it for updates.

Lastly, these are examples on tolerated and good posts

I really like your story, my favorite scene was the one where Arya had that heart to heart with Eragon, you portrayed the emotions so well.

I spotted a few gramatical errors, here they are *insert spelling mistakes etc*

I encourage people to write more than in these short examples, the longer time you'll take and the more questions you raise, constructive criticism and praise you make and errors you point out the better. ).gif There might even be a small something for the best editor awesome-old.gif

I am covered in skin
No one gets to come in
Pull me out from inside
I am folded, and unfolded, and unfolding
I am colorblind

Okay, I have an additional point to add. Stop making threads for your story that will come next week or whatever. POST IT WHEN YOU HAVE THE FIRST CHAPTER.

I will close your thread if you do this, so that is a warning for everyone. We don't need a ton of threads around that just say "I'll have my chapter in three days" and what not.

FABULOUSSSSS!!

Okay, I'm adding something else.

I've had quite enough of posts like this:

QUOTE
offtopic.gif Omg, I had such a bad day I don't even want to talk!!

Why is that relevant? I have failed to answer that question, but I do know it's not important to Inheritance Fan Fiction. We don't care about your day in these threads, we want to know how your story is going, and how you can improve. If you want to complain about something or talk about something else, find the appropriate thread or keep it to PM's.

FABULOUSSSSS!!

It seems that every time I come back the rules regarding what constitutes spam posts get stricter and stricter, which isn't a bad thing, I remember when I first came here, every other post found new and exciting ways to ask a writer to update!

Anyway, the reason for this post, I have a quick suggestion regarding this. To stop people posting topics about stories that they are about to start or are coming soon, why not have a stickied preview thread?
I remember something like that about this time last year, in fact I posted in it to plug the sequel to Du Wyrda Abr Skulblaka.
If there was such a thread, writers would be able to let everyone know basic info about their imminent story without breaking forums rules. There could be a form that writers have to adhere to, something along the lines of:

Writer name:
Story name:
Plot summary:
Main character/s:
Genre:
Where it fits in to the IF Cycle timeline: (For instance, pre Galbatorix, post Eragon, post Eldest, post Brisingr and so on.)
When is the first chapter coming out:

Hope this helps.

I don't really see a point with a preview thread. I also remember we used to have it, but I think it was removed mainly because it didn't have much of a purpose. People can post their stories when they have something written up, there's not much point advertising a long time before it's posted.
