I know many of you are fans of Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series, which is currently on its sixth book (or eighth if you count the companion books). The books centre around an Irish boy named Artemis Fowl and his interactions with fairies, who live underground and are more technologically advanced than humans.

I first read Artemis Fowl six years ago, after The Eternity Code was published, and was enthralled by the unconventional characters and witty dialogue.

There was. This topic is about Artemis Fowl only.

I'm starting to think Artemis and Holly may end up together, despite how incompatible they are. Or maybe he'll end up with Minerva after all, and he and Holly will just remain good friends. I think the former would be more satisfactory, if Eoin Colfer can find a believable way to make it work.

Yeah, I think Minerva and Artemis would be perfect, thought a bit predictable. I was extremely irritated that she totally dissappeared from the plot in the last book, and I really hope she comes back in the next one.

The only reason for that IMO is that the book took place over 2 'real' days. So, hopefully, we will see her again in the next book, and she could influence Artemis to do some bad things again...

No kidding. God, I'm getting so tired of him being such a do-gooder.

I'm not really...They are still awesome books. But we don't know what Colfer has waiting for him, and we could probably never do anything about it.

I like Artemis Fowl. Foaly especially (as you could tell by my name), he's cool. I didn't really like that one with the warlocks... I just didn't think it was very good. It should have just ended before that.

Does this series have an ongoing story that is working its way to a climax and series end or is it the same characters used over and over in isolated adventures?

I would say it does not have an ongoing adventure.

I believe Eoin Colfer thinks up ideas for the next book as he goes along, the exception being the most recent book (The Time Paradox) and the one next to be published - while The Time Paradox is mostly complete in itself, it ends in with cliffhanger.

Compare the series to The Chronicles of Narnia: each book builds on the events of the previous books, but is a distinct and complete story.

Actually this is kinda scary since I just got done re-reading [i]The Lost Colony[i/] for the tenth time. I have to say Artemis is wicked smart, Holly is wicked cool, and Butler is wicked B.A. A word of advice to Foaly (lol awesome name) try rereadig the books multiple times. I do that and I finally have it figured out.

The lost colony had a small cliff hanger, albeit not that big.

Nevertheless, I very much doubt Eoin Colfer would have left the book with that cliffhanger if he hadn't planned how to resolve it in a future novel.

Of course not, but I think it will be solved quite soon, because Opal is getting boring, and I think he understands this.
