Well... here's some drawings I've done in the past year. For all of these, I used a standard mechanical pencil. My scanner's currently having... issues... so some of these were taken from my cell phone - which distorts the lighting and contrast quite a bit... but oh well you get the general idea... Also, could someone please explain how to make a thumbnail with a link? I hate to have all these pictures so large... Thanks!

So here we go:

1. A quick sketch I did... it's a shame, the eye is all blotted out. I'll try and post a clearer image as soon as my scanner's back online.

2. A grid drawing I did in art class - theme: Cowboys and Indians... here's the picture I chose (courtesy of national geographic wallpapers):

And here's my drawing of it... The pic's from a cell phone though, so it's all washed out:

3. A dragon I drew... I'll probably go back and shade it, though for now I kind of like the outline

4. A joint effort between my dad and I... I was trying out some of his old pencils and he was helping me draw things like the plane and the (very distorted) elephant in the background, so the style's not quite what I'm used to... This is from a while ago:

I've got some more drawings I'd like to post - it's just a matter of finding them in the dark abyss that's my closet...

And now for some photographs:

1. A creek we camped next to. The camera's pretty slow though, so the water is blurry.

2. Mountains in the evening above the same camping spot...

3. A shot from my cell phone as we were driving. The mountains on that drive are just spectacular and no picture does them justice.

4. Grizzly bears at the San Francisco zoo - from a trip we took to visit my grandparents

I'm a pretty amateur photographer, so please don't judge too harshly... I just take random pictures for fun ).gif

So... what did you think? I'd love to hear some feedback...

Wow - you clearly have talent. The grid drawing seems very accurate and the dragon looks really cool, did you draw it from imagination? The photos look good as well, none of them are boring snaps. I'm not so sure on the eagle though, the head looks too small for its body to me.

If you're using photobucket as your hosting site then clickable thumbnails is simple: you just click "share", then in the window that opens up you can copy a code labelled "clickable thumbnail for forums" or something along those lines. Can't really help if you're not using photobucket because I'm no computer whiz-kid.

Those are really good. I really like the one of the dragon. It's my favorite out of all of them. You definitely have talent.

Thanks for the thumbnail help, Vincent ).gif

And glad you guys liked them! That was actually my first time ever trying to draw a dragon... As far as the eagle goes - I see what you mean, now that you point it out. Ah well, I'll try and fix that when I get the chance ).gif

They dragon is amazing, you can't tell that it's your favourite time drawing one, though you might want to try the whole body, and implement more shading.
Your photographs show great colour contrast and clarity. I enjoy your subject matter, and you cowboy drawing is fabulous. What's a grid drawing anyway?

A grid drawing is where you draw a light "grid" in pencil on both the photo and the paper. It allows you to focus on drawing one square at a time, and hopefully the resulting picture will be more accurate. As you draw, you gradually erase the grid lines, until the whole drawing is complete. It's a very meticulous way to draw, and focuses entirely on accuracy, and copying the original photo as much as possible...

In this drawing, the grid squares were 1 cm x 1 cm on the photo, and 1 5/8 inch x 1 5/8 inch on the paper. The grids have to correspond for this to work (if there's 8 squares across on the photo, there's got to be 8 across on the drawing) - it's basically a "scale" drawing... Agh, I'm not very good at explaining things like that though...

These are all really good, especailly the grid drawing. The photographs aren't bad, but the one with the bears "taking out their anger" seems to be a bit blurred, or white all over if you know what I mean. But I do like how you can see the fur in that fashion, and I'm guessing they're wet, right?

I don't find anything wrong with the drawings. My favorite one has to be the bird, but wait, I find some mistakes on the bird. The feet on the bird look a bit too large for the body of the bird, especially how they look attached the branch. The left one looks just...weird, and the right one, you can't see the leg of the foot. If you added the leg, like you did on the right one, it would look better.

The dragon is drawn really well, although did some of the spikes smear? I can see the outline of one of them, but they're smeared. Did water get splashed onto the drawing or was it just the drawing material you used and tried to fix it? I also think if you finished that drawing, it would look really, really good.

The water flow photograph is a bit blurred at the white spots, but you can't really tell very much unless you really look at it a certain way, but I do like how some of the rocks appear at the bottom. The clear water really helps with visibility. But where exactly was the creek at? It looks amazing, especially with the rock formation by it.

The mountain pictures are awesome, except for the first one, it would have been nice to see the trees instead of them being black like that, but I do like the skyline and the clouds joining in at the top, always adds a nice touch. The second picture is pretty good, although it's a bit out of focus, giving it that blurry kind of look. But I do like the trees and the grass with it.

Awesome job, I can't wait for more ).gif.

Believe it or not, the "blurriness" or "smears" on the dragon are actually from my scanner... the original doesn't have any smears like that at all. Any lines that were "too light" either smeared or didn't show up well (note the "dotted" lines on the front legs). That particular scanner's now broken, btw ;).gif

As far as the photographs go... my camera's pretty bad. It has all sorts of issues with lighting and stuff. The dark hillside actually looked like that, even from our perspective. The camera lightened the sky up a bit (it was evening) but we couldn't even see the trees anymore - it was getting dark pretty quickly and we were at the bottom of the little valley.

The creek in the pic was Bear Creek, up between Silverton and Ouray, CO. The creek starts out in a pretty flat valley area around Silverton, but the valley becomes steep like a gorge on one side - hence the "rock formation." It's a really cool area, and the mountains are just incredible.

Hmm... here's another picture of the creek (not mine, by the way). You can just see the line on the hill where the dirt road is, and if you'd continue back into that little valley, you'd hit our campsite. You can see how flat the creek is at this point, and about a half mile behind the cameraman would be Silverton.

And yep the bears were soaked D.gif They'd just climbed out of the water, and were playing/fighting when I took that pic...

The Indians and the Dragon were beautiful, the dragon seems majestic and powerful. Nice ).gif

Hey EP, you might want to explain more in depth why you like it. Just one sentence and the word "nice" 'ain't gonna cut it.

I think adding the mountains, the trees, the rock formation, and the road is really, really smart. It's an awesome picture, and I don't think you can find many places that beautiful. The flowers in the corner add bright colors to the darker, green look which is a nice touch. But I think if you could take out that hill in the backround, it would help, because it being blurry doesn't really lighten the picture.

Wait, is that a car? Lol, I didn't see it there until I saw something trailing behind it, like the dirt. If you took that out too, it'd take out the modern look and add the nature look. But in a way, the car kind of tells you how big the mountain and creek is if it's that small. I hadn't realized how big the mountain and creek was.

More updates please ).gif.
