Welcome to Paradise!
Jonas ran along the abandoned apartment building, pistol in hand. His black hair, reaching down to his shoulders, whipped behind him. He was a tall, lanky kid of sixteen, and he had been born in what used to be the USA. Now it was a wasteland.
Sliding under a fallen girder, he stopped briefly, listening closely. The footsteps that had been following him were gone. Collapsing in relief, he breathed a deep sigh. He had gotten away from the Enclave.
The US, along with the rest of the world, had went through a nuclear holocaust, and now all that was left were people trying to eek out a living in a radioactive wasteland. The capital, Washington DC, was no more than a ruin, where the main conflicts between the Enclave, the remnants of the US government, and the Brotherhood of Steel, some of the remaing US military, were located. Mutants and ghouls, along with Radscorpions, deathclaws (large mutants that could hit HARD!), Radroaches, Giant Red Ants, all were corrupted by the radiation. Non-radioactive food was hard to come by, and medical supplies were even rare. It was a terrible state to live in.
Jonas himself had been born into the Brotherhood of Steel, and since his fifteenth birthday he had been a sabatour for them. In fact, he had just blown up an Enclave checkpoint not half an hour ago. His parent had been very angry when he accepted, but there was nothing they could do about it, as both were in medical treatment for high radiation they had been exposed too about 3 years after Jonas's birth. They resided in Carnavous Hall, a large, mostly intact skyscraper along Chicago's Lakefront. Lord Carnavous had been the founding member of the Brotherhood in Chi-town, while President John Eden of the Enclave had personally made it his goal to wipe Chicago off the map.
Jonas lifted himself up and took off at a dead sprint east, towards the Lakefront. The water was radioactive, so none dared enter it. However, many boats had been built, albiet shoddily, and the Enclave and Brotherhood fought desperately over the Lake, for rumor had it Project Purity in Washington was coming to fruition. Pure drinking water would help rebuild society, and both sides knew it.
A large roar sounded behind the youth.
"Oh damn!" He muttered. Three Super Mutants lumbered into the crossroads he had stopped at. Noticing his disappearing figure, they charged after him, assault rifles blazing. Bullets kicked up the debris at his feet, and, diving into an alley, he attempted his escape.
Running onto a dumpster and leaping, Jonas grabbed a hanging ladder and started to pull himself up. Rung by rung, he plodded on, knowing that if he fell, he was dead. Reaching the fire escape, he ran up the few flights of stairs and reached the top of an old insurance building. Steeling his resolve, he took a running jump, crossing the ten foot gap in between two buildings, and he took off.
(An hour later)
Throwing open the doors of his apartment in Carnavous Hall, Jonas plopped down on his cot, falling asleep instantly. The grimy room did nothing to the exhaustian he was feeling. Today had been another normal day in Paradise, AKA Chicago.
There you go Fallout fans. it's not great, but it will get better.
