Has anyone ever read The Legned of Drizzt series by RA Salvatore? I read the first 3 books so far (which were originally published as The Dark Elf trilogy), and I have to say they were really great reads.
So who else has read these?

Yea, I found one from like January, but I figured I might as well create a new one.
As for the pronounciation, I don't know if there is any one way to say his name. Some people say its pronounced "Drizz-it", other say its simply "Drizzt." I personally use the latter.

Isn't this series about a Dungeons and Dragons character? How does that factor into the story? I assume that Drizzt doesn't roll dice when he wants to attack or anything, but is the novel at all influenced by the turn-based structure of the game?

Drizzt does make appearances in Dungeons and Dragons, but he didn't start out as a Dungeons and Dragons character. He was first introduced in the late 80s in the Icewind Dale trilogy, which is now books IV-VI in The Legend of Drizzt.
However, the main series, Forgotten Realms, has been used as a setting for Dungeons and Dragons, so there is definitely influence in terms of the different races and lands.

I have read and enjoyed all of this series up until The Lone Drow. The Dark Elf Trilogy is definitely my favorite because of its insight into the brutal nature of dark elves (I'm just weird like that). So far, The Hunter's Blade Trilogy is a little disappointing because they're only fighting orcs. It's such a step down from hordes of Drow and dragons and such. Anyway, I definitely recommend.

I have only just begun the series myself. I think of Drizzt as a bad-ass that is one step above any other badass i've seen. I must admit I am a little bothered by the fact that he will be down played later in the series.
As for a sidenote my favorite character is Drizzt. He has amazing depth so far that I can't help but like him. My favorite bad character is his brother, killing his older sorcerous brother the night Drizzt was born was ingenious.
