This is mainly for those currently in grades 6-12, because I'm trying to find several texts for my students to read in the second half of the year that they would actually be interested in. I'd also rather hear from the age group mentioned because, well, you guys are the ones that have had to sit through class reading it. XD I want to know what kinds of stories kids are into these days, what the current trend is, and all that jazz.
And no, the Twilight Series and the Inheritance Series will not be on my book list.

Charlotte's Web - E.B. White
The Silver Sword - Ian Serraillier
There probably were one or two others, but I can't remember. We did only one book per year, Primary Four to Six, and Secondary One and Two. Most of the time went into other stuff.

Captain Jack Sparrow: "Cruel is a matter of perspective."
Halt the Ranger: "People see only what they expect to see."
J. Robert Oppenheimer: "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."

Frankenstein (play version) adapted by Philip Pullman.
The Landlady by Roald Dahl.
Bridge To Teribithia by Katherine Paterson, (methinks?)
They are honestly the only half-decent ones I can remember. And the think English is supposed to be fun.

Shade's Children by Garth Nix
At the Mo, that's all I can think of, we don't really read that many books.

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." Gandalf
Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe." Jesus

Peter and the Star Catchers was recommended by a teacher, but not mandatory. Very good. ^_^
And most people seem to be of that opinion. -___- But I liked it, so there. XD

Over the past few years, my setworks have been I Am David (Grade 8), The Color of Water (9), The Kite Runner (10), Things Fall Apart (11) and Saturday (12). Out of those, my favourite (and the favourite of most of my class) was definitely The Kite Runner. It's a splendid book, although some of the content might not be appropriate for students before Grade 10. We also did several Shakespearean plays, of which the ones the class engaged with the most were The Tempest and Twelfth Night; I suppose because they're relatively light-hearted and straightforward.
Some of the preferred poems we covered were my sweet old etcetera by E. E. Cummings, Mending Wall by Robert Frost and My Last Duchess by Robert Browning.

And I liked A Wrinkle In Time. Read the other books in the quartet.

Captain Jack Sparrow: "Cruel is a matter of perspective."
Halt the Ranger: "People see only what they expect to see."
J. Robert Oppenheimer: "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."
