I discovered that this site had a running Pokemon avatar theme, so I decided to make one. Not just any ordinary one either, A 3D one. And so, Here is V1 of my Charizard. I know ive gotta fix the texturing on the belly, and I might make a few other tweaks, but here it is so far.

Cell-Shading FTW.

Also, I MIGHT undertake modeling pokemon as a hobby. If that happens, I will make a new thread and post all of my updates there ;).gif
ALSO, If anyone wants me to specially make a pokemon in 3D for an avatar or something, then I'd be happy to oblige so long as it dosent take too long (This charizard took me about half an hour to an hour to get to this point in the modeling ;).gif)

It's pretty good, except the head...The perspective is kinda weird.

Perhaps it just looks odd from this camera angle.

"I go to my fathers, in whose mighty company I shall not now feel ashamed." Theoden
"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." Gandalf
"Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe." Jesus

I wouldn't call this truly 3D. It isn't really the kind of thing that we would associate with 3D. There is conflicting style in the piece. Cell shading is a generic style for 2D cartoons, like animes for example. The reason they use cell shading is because it is easy to animate, and it takes less time. You don't have this restriction. Try looking at some of this type of art on places like Deviant art(look up in particular things like colourings).

I also agree with Palagrin about the perspective. I would really expect the head to be lower and the arms to be facing the other way(turning inwards on charizards chest).

Good point.

Here is a slightly fixed V2:

When he said 3D, I believe he means it's a 3D model. From what I can tell, that looks like a model made in 3DSM with the ink'n paint material slapped onto it, which gives it its celshaded look.

Anyway, if you want proper crits on a 3D model, you should post front and side views of that model and also wireframes. From just this perspective view, I can only tell you that the head is far too squished and he seems to be lacking shoulders. The wings are a bit small (though I'm not much of a Pokemon fan so I can't really confirm that), and his legs are attached oddly.

I see you're using New Light. Try Autocad. It's free and has tons of different features to offer like Highlight shading, off-set ground, etc.

Although New Light is also good. I've seen some brilliant images made with it. Did you download it or buy it from somewhere?

Normally, with a character model you just make one half of the model then mirror it over and weld both halves together. That way, both sides of the model would look the same, as opposed to the uneven look it now has.

Lets see... The face looks like its collapsed in the center, gives it an odd appearance. And the head itself is too rectangular in shape. He has absolutely no shoulder, you just attached his arms straight to his torso. This is how shoulders should be done (yes I know the site has a weird name, but I assure you it is most definitely a real site and there's nothing inappropriate on it). Also, on the elbow/knee joints, the way you have it now would not deform properly. Check this for limb deformations. Remake the tail, keep it straight this time. You can change it into a different pose later, but for now keep it straight so that the tail doesn't change its thickness at weird areas.

When he said New Light, he probably meant NewTek LightWave, though I'm not sure what Autocad is.. probably meant Autodesk?

Autocad is a computer aid program made by Autodesk.

It's really old, although the newer versions are pretty kickass. Search it up. There's a newer version coming about early next year.
