James, it has deep color and good contrast.

Kyle's is kinda washed out and bland. Bubbles don't make sense either.

James, I agree with Erona. The coloring is so much stronger and it overall looks so much beter ).gif

James as well. While I like the over all feel of Kyle's, t doesn't stick out nearly as much as his.

Kyle, the composition is a whole lot better, and it doesn't suffer from floating head syndrome the lighter colour suggests a bright light to me, and isn't overcontrasted. Also really liked the effect you had going on underneath Ifrit. Also you managed to show some level of depth, which I liked,

James, yours is pretty good, but I don't feel the depth you were going for was pulled off as effectively, sorry man =/.

I am with mtb

Kyle gets my vote.
As mtb said, compo is superior and the is no floating head :tongue.gif
I prefer the colouring in Kyle's, it fits well with the design.

Also, smudging beats liquify all day long.

I agree with mtb and motb Kyle's has something that just catches my eye. He used the lighting to his advantage. Kyle gets my vote.

Weren't these made with GIMP? Looks like the sparks displacement map method.

Kinda like liquify, but it can get some interesting results, though it's not as effective as Kyle's smudging this time.

Yeah, both were made in GIMP. Hey James, it seems we are tied. When does voting end by the way?

If it helps, K_G.

I really cannot find a good way to explain why.

Oooooooo Kyle in the lead. Now we need someone else to go James, and it'll be all tied up again.

I talked to James and he says Clorox's vote does not count unless he has a reason.

=.=

I was trying to figure out a way of finding the difference between the two. Mostly, I found them a close match. The clarity for James' Ifrit was more significantly visible. But looking more closely at both of them for some time made me reach the decision that medium close-up in K_G's image brought more depth and focus into it.

While that being an important factor, James coped up with the render fitting in more to the surrounding environment.

While considering these two things the most, I still am not able to explain that final notch that made me come to my decision.
