Now, I know there are many inheritance fans on this site, and that writing fanfiction is fun, but really, there are quite a lot of fanfics out there already, and I think it would be nice if people starting trying to write other stuff. ).gif Some of the fanfics are quite good, don't get me wrong, its just that there are a lot of them. And if you think about it they aren't are that original anyway; you're basically taking the work of another author and warping it to fit your needs. I personally think original works are a lot more fun and a lot more helpful in developing writing skills.

Please don't take this in a bad way, I'm not trying to insult anyone' writing or anything, this is just a suggestion. ).gif I just think it would be nice if people wrote other stuff for a change.

Well, bucket, many writers on those are newbie writers. I really do think it's a good chance for them to learn. We might have been innundated with fanfics, but in the bigger picture, it's good for them, and I don't mind.

Also, writing original stuff is exponentially harder. With fanfic, you already have a plotline and characters, and you just play around, which is why I think it's more fun to most. And to be honest, I rather have am million fanfics than see OF skyrocket downwards.

Please use correct grammar and punctuation Shadeslayer Asrafel.

We do have a ton of these stories, but I've come to appreciating that at least one part of Writers Hangout is so active.

FABULOUSSSSS!!

Looking at things from a considerate and philanthropic point of view? I agree with Kari. It's good practice for young writers, and for all the bashing that goes on of Inheritance, if it inspires people to write then that's a good thing. We all need to start somewhere; my first stories were technically fanfics, after all.

From a personal point of view...ehh, it does get somewhat irritating when a post "MY BOOK FOR- *******" comes up every few seconds as the most recent post in Writer's Hangout. But meh, I'm whinging tongue.gif

That's true, I hadn't thought of that. And yeah Pixel, it is good that that section is active. ).gif

Though I have to agree with Malus, it does get a little bit annoying after a while, but that's just my personal opinion. ).gif

When I started with mine back in may, there weren't as much really active ones, except for the really good ones.

Now I see kids starting up fanfics with fancy titles, and they 'write' a chapter or two, but they simply never post anymore, and the story falls into page 2.

I only check out fanfics that have over 10,000 views, then I'm fairly sure it gets updated frequently and read frequently.

My take: Does it have a Unique plot twist? If so proceed to step 3.
2)If you answered no to the above question, go back to step 1.
3) Post it. Update it Promptly.

My problem isn't the activity, but the content. Seriously, I am so bored of these 'My Book Four' stories which consist of Eragon finding the green egg, Arya becoming the rider, the two of them setting Murtagh free after a load of angst and some MurtaghxNasuada, and having a massive final battle with Eragon killing Galbatorix with his own two hands. Of course, there a few truckloads of ExA in between. Really, how original.

That's why I enjoyed Opifex's and Arthryn's fics so much. They were original, and took the plot in a completely different direction. Twisted it on its head, messed it around. They were fresh, and didn't push the same tired old buttons.

I guess Kari is right, though I feel like the Inheritance fanfiction section is a completely different world to the rest of WH, completely different people and everything. I wonder if any of them have ever filtered over to OW at all?

Yeah some of them did filter over to OW. And even if is the same old plot with not much originality, it does get some people to write what they want to. So it does help them get better at writing.
This is my take on the matter.

You know, since that section has so much activity, I wonder why we don't encourage readers to check out OW while they're here.
