What would you say is probably the worst book ever written? And why? I would have to say The Ephesus Fragment by Gary E. Parker. The guy cannot write! He over uses metaphors and similes. Plus the ones he does use are just awful! At one point my oldest sister was an English major, and she was going to use that book as an example of how not to write a book. That's how bad it was.

Oh I hope people don't constantly say Twilight or Inheritance, for that wouldn't be interesting and probably not true. Someone posted something about a terrible book here once. The grammar and language was terrible and words were often used wrong.

FABULOUSSSSS!!

I'm sorry Pixel, but I really did think those EXACT series. XD No explanation needed.

OK, imagination.. The Amber Spyglass, if the title's correct, was definetely one of the worst I've ever read. In case I have gotten the title, wrong, I meant the last book in his Dark materials series. Basically, what completely destroyed it for me was how radically the author changed from fantasy to a rant on religion and destroying God.

Close Up by Sherry Ashworth. Worst spent 250 pages of my life

But...but... the Inheritance Cycle is bad.

I would have to say the worst book I've read that I can remember is The Quest by Wilbur Smith. Not so much the prose, but for the sheer ridculousness of it, and I guess the disappointment. I'm not going to stick in spoilers, 'cause if you want to read it, you're mad.

I absolutely adored River God and The Seventh Scroll, but this one? He got the facts/canon continually wrong. Names changed, hair colour changed, the main character was suddenly all powerful and able to regrow his teeth and his balls and penis (he was once a eunuch), becomes young once more, gets back together with the reincarnated love of his life (who had previously sworn undying love for another man) and it just goes on and on. There were also killer frogs (and I though Goodkind's chickens were bad).

If I have be totally honest, it felt like you were reading the author's wet dream and at points it bordered on paedophillic. It was so bad, it's put me off all his other books.

By far the worst book ever written is the bible, yea I said it, the worst book ever written is the bible.
On the 6th day, God created Man. On the 7th day, Man returned the favor.

You've totally tempted me into saying Twilight but I won't. Just because I hate the series and all it stands for doesn't make it the worst book ever written. Though it is bad, like really bad. But by no means the worst.

I am trying to think of the title of the worst book ever.. but it escapes me. Well anyway it was this horrific book about vampires in current times relating with humans and then the next one had vampires and werewolves (holy crap jjust like Twilight I know! but it wasn't and was a million times worse) but anyway it was terrible. The characters kept changing, there were grammatical errors, plot holes, and the characters were about as deep as a puddle.

It was absolute trash and before you chirp me for reading a book like that, it was only because my friends had to read an equally fail books. We went to the library for class and we were done, so we each picked out the stupidest books we could find for eachother and we all had to read them D.gif

The reason I say Twilight or Inheritance probably aren't the worst is because there are so many more unknown books that probably are much more horrific. Why don't we know about them? Because they are so terrible no one will read them and they aren't popular. Anyone getting my logic there? There is usually something much worse than what you have seen.

If a toddler book counts, I saw a book once that was talking about a kid who did something for a long time. There were about fifteen pages, 2 of which consisted of only one word; "long". The previous page began with something like, "He did this for a long..." and then it continued to say the same word for two pages.

FABULOUSSSSS!!

Oh! Timoleon Vieta come Home! Don't remember the author, but I was twelve when I read it and half the book's to do with sex. And in the end, we get a lovely description how a guy smashes a dog's (Timoleon Vieta's) head open. Half the sex scenes weren't even to do with the plot; completely random. The hero was TV's owner and he was as gay as they get with the motto 'stay at my house for free, but on Wednesdays you suck my ----".

Perhaps you would care to explain why?

"I go to my fathers, in whose mighty company I shall not now feel ashamed." Theoden
"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." Gandalf
"Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe." Jesus

I'd actually be interested in that, too, but move it to MD. Not here.

I quite liked the amber spyglass. The concept of god though was totally anti religious, and I didn't agree with it, but the plot was ingenius in my opinion, and it was written well. Was the rant on religion nesiscary? I don't think so, but it's nowhere near the worst book ever written

I just thought of another one that was really bad, but I can't remember the exact title though. There was pretty much no conflict. None. The good guys had so many advantages against their enemy that it wasn't even a really fight. The whole thing was stupid.

Yeah, I actually loved The Amber Spyglass and all the anti-religious views. I think it's amazing, especially the angel hierarchy.
As much as I'd like to contribute to this thread with a title, I can't say I've stumbled upon a book that I would consider the worst book ever written. Sure, there have been some that I have hated (such as one with a really long title by Garcia Marquez, a writer who won the Nobel Prize) but I am still able to appreciate their literary value.
However, there is one book I had to forcefully read a few pages of that tops my list: The Mexican Constitution.
