Hi everyone,

Since we have new features that we didn't have covered in the rules previously, we've updated the rules. For now, we have added a new section for statuses. It's pretty much in line with the rest of the rules in terms of what we don't like to see. If you're caught breaking these rules, you're subject to the same disciplinary actions as with breaking the other rules, warn, post suspension, full suspension. Severity of punishment is based on how deeply you violate the rules. Bad statues are bad, mmmkay?

Statuses

Your status is a fun and quick way to let other members what is on your mind. Do not use your status to flame or harass other members, advertise political or religious opinions, or advertise outside websites. Statuses are viewable by everybody. Do not swear, make sexual references, or use obscenities or slurs in your status.

Additionally, we've been running the post rebuild function, which we should have done initially, but didn't realize we needed to. I'm not sure how long it'll take, but it's been running in the background for a while, and should hopefully fix all that random HTML coding you see in pre-update posts, like the quote issue.

Oh, and speaking of quotes, I did in fact turn off automatic quote embedding. I've been meaning to do so for a long time because I hate massive quote chains as much as the next guy. So if you're wondering where your quote chains went, that is where.

Okay, It said no advertising other sites..But what about RPGs in this site?
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne, In the land Mordor where the Shadows lie. One Ring to Find them, One Ring to bring them all and in darkness bind them In the Land of Mordor where shadows lie. - J.R.R Tolkien

Good to know. I'm personally gonna miss the quote chains. It was handy in a lot of places.

It specifically leaves out advertising threads on here so I'd say you're in the clear for now. Though I can see that changing in the future once people start shoving their threads down our throats via the status system.

Are there censors in place on the status updates?

What if we aren't advertising whole sites, but threads on sites? Like, for example, I have a thread for my OW on Hortorian. So if I post a link to that, would that be considered advertising?

You couldn't put that in the Hortorian thread, or the good old fashion way of putting it in your signature?

Uh, that constitutes an outside site. You're welcome to post about that in Hortorian's Ad Hut thread or put it in your signature, as Bagenbaggage mentioned.

As for in-site threads, posting about them in your status is fine for now. I don't mind if people want to plug their story or RPG in their status. Just don't be obnoxious about it.

How about we just don't put links in statuses? It's easy enough to find threads here on IF, people don't need other members shoving links to RPGs they aren't interested in or threads they don't want to see linked all over the place. If they want to see it, they'll find it easily enough on their own.

Links don't even work in statuses. I tested it. I'm addressing people posting stuff like 'come see my art work at iluvfurries.deviantart.com!' or 'check out this cool random site I found' or 'support my cause at greenhippie.org' and stuff like that. Even if links don't work, there's still the possibility of people using statuses to plug outside stuff regardless. My aim with that rule is to head off any spamming and advertising abuse of the status.

Does ''I went to church today,'' ''I'm going on religious retreat,'' or ''I'm reading <insert religious/anti-religious book here>'' count as ''advertising religious opinions''?

I'd say definitely not on the first two. The reading of some religious/anti-religious book is more iffy, but I think it's a matter of context. What I really don't want to see is stuff like 'Jesus Christ is the one true savior open your heart to him!' or 'religion is stupid'. On the political side of it, what I don't mind is stuff like 'I voted for Obama' but what shouldn't be said is stuff like 'You should vote for Obama!' or 'liberals/conservatives suck' or something.
