I downloaded Gimp yesterday and I've been fiddling around.

It's excellent for a first. Some people just seem to get the knack of it straight away.

I agree that it is nice for a first one. I just started to try nd make sigs too, and it is pretty fun. Keep it up.

It's pretty alright, considering it's your first sig.

First off, the text is bad. The font, the positioning and the size all distract from the pip-thing, and make it the focal. Try to make your text smaller and less noticeable, if you keep it at all. text is not always necessary.

The effects are pretty nice, but you have to blend the main focal point into the effects, not make it seem as though it were slapped onto it.

Colouring is alright, but a bit monotone, variation helps it, so try picking out another colour from the render in future, and make sure it matches it.

Try reading some tutorials, gimptalk forums are a good place to start, and maybe try deviantart too.
